Pelosianism

Nancy Pelosi, the West Coast Catholic theologian who doubles as Speaker of the House in Washington DC, has issued another decree. It was delivered Sunday during services at the Anathema Babylon Church, presided by acolyte George Stephanopoulos.

Transcript from the ABC site:

STEPHANOPOULOS: Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus?

PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children's health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those - one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.

STEPHANOPOULOS: So no apologies for that?

PELOSI: No apologies.

Translation: More people is bad for the economy. Babies will worsen the situation. Additional residents will put an even higher strain on state and national budgets...I should say "additional POOR residents"....

The way I see it, additional people will create higher demand for goods and services. The demand for additional goods and services will in turn create employment opportunities - above and beyond the need for more birth control in the marketplace. However, High Priestess Pelosi looks at it with the myopic view that more poor people will make life harder and more uncomfortable for her. As one of the wealthiest members of Congress, she has a responsibility to share what she has with those less fortunate, not hoard her possessions and expect others to foot the bill, or worse yet, demand that more USA citizens not even come into existence.

GK Chesterton once wrote (and I'm paraphrasing here): "You don't eliminate poverty by eliminating the poor person; you eliminate the poor person by eliminating poverty." The funding of contraceptions in this proposed stimulus bill is a direct attack on the poor person - it does nothing to lift them up, improve their situation, or put additional money in their pockets. It's a covert plan to keep the poor marginalized and subject to governmental control.

And there ain't nothing Catholic about that.
