Monday Madness XIV

Welcome to Monday Madness, the weekly installment at AoftheA, where standards for excellence are kept under lock and key until Tuesday.

Here's a strange one from Manolith: Japanese Up Their Weirdo Cred With Latest Fad by Jeff Wysoski (bizarre photo alert!! I've warned you!!)

In their perpetual pursuit to “out-weird” the rest of the world, the Japanese have resorted to perhaps the stupidest body mod fad of all-time.

No, those kids up there in the photo aren’t suffering from progressed brain tumors. Rather, they are bagelheads: people who modify their body so that it looks like a giant bagel is growing out of their skin.

The look is accomplished through the use of a saline solution drip, which is injected at your local tattoo/piercing shop by a professional piercer. The injection causes massive swelling, which can then be molded and pressed into the shape of your choosing.

Naturally, the Japanese chose the logical shape of a bagel.

Apparently, if a skin-shaped bagel isn’t enough for you, you can add food dye to give color to your bump. So, with a few dots of black food coloring, I guess you could easily transform your plain old bagelhead into a much more delicious cinnamon raisin.

[...]

Thankfully, the bagels only last for one night before your body gobbles up the saline solution and your skin returns to normal. Still, possible side effects include headache, infection, stretched skin, the inability to wear a hat and getting laughed at by everyone who looks at you.

Okaaaaaaaayyyy. Bagelheads....cream cheese brains.

When I first saw the photos (before reading the post)I thought it was makeup....I thought, OK, well weird but, whatever.
Reading that it's real physical distortion, I have to say that this is the most bizarre thing I've ever seen.

I watched a show once where people were inserting items under their skin to produce bumps. This was permanent. Cream cheese brains is right!

Love that metal post coming out the top of his head. Not! Why do people do this? And, do I want to know?

On closer inspection, is that a cake decorator tip???

Did anyone else think of the Simpson's episode where Satan (Ned Falnders) turns homer's head into a big donut?

Sarah - you know, you might be right. I think it's a #3 tip.

Terry - just doing my part. You could get one and have it molded into the shape of a cross or something!
