Telling Statement

Just finished reading an interview Doug Kmiec gave to The Times of Malta (which can be read here), and while no new ground is broken concerning his unwavering support of Obama, there's one quote that's rather revealing - emphasis mine.

Even though there were areas of disagreement, Mr Obama pointed out the responsibility of government to provide a family wage, to care for the environment and to provide healthcare for the uninsured. (but it's not government-run health care. Got it.)

"When I thought about all these things, I thought 'this is my catechism come to life' because we are called to each of these things in the social teachings of the Church."

Hmmm. The copy I have is titled "The Catechism of the Catholic Church". His must be called The Catechism of Doug Kmiec.

I realize that being an ambassador requires commitment to the administration's policies. But it's rather unsettling to hear him say things like "...everyone realised that this (Obama) was a man of humility, great intelligence and capable of listening..." and "...that Mr Obama is about conducting a foreign policy that is principled and lives up to international standards...". Sounds like his transformation into Richard Rich is complete.
