Think Pink
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I figured that out watching the NFL games the past two weekends, where nearly every player was wearing something pink - shoes, wristbands, armbands, caps with pink bills. I wonder if the players felt silly wearing such an effeminate color in conjunction with their uniforms. Maybe it made them more aggressive out of embarrassment.
Well, in any case, breast cancer is not a laughing matter. One of my older sisters is a survivor, thanks be to God, but I bet she has the same opinion of me about all this Awareness business. To me, it seems to be just a money making scheme for the Susan J Komen Foundation. Did you know that they are in league with Planned Parenthood? I don't think a lot of women were aware of that. Now that's Breast Cancer Awareness for you! There have been numerous studies showing a link between abortions and breast cancer, so it seems kinda odd that a foundation whose mission is to cure breast cancer has been giving grants to the nation's largest abortion provider. An unholy alliance, right?
So I keep seeing pink. Even in the grocery stores. It seems that more than half the packaging includes a printed pink ribbon, or the manufacturer has completely changed their logos. Have you ever seen Campbell's Soup printed in pink and white instead of their usual red and white? I know! I don't buy it either!
All this in-your-face awareness has given me pinkeye. And it makes me glad that there is no Testicular Cancer Awareness month. Just imagine what that be would like! What would they use, fuzzy dice? (ok, forget I said that!)
I bet somewhere a progressive liturgist is dreaming of ways to incorporate the Think Pink into masses. Can you imagine that?
