From eNews Park Forest:
Along with the St. Katharine Drexel Racial Justice Awards, the Office for Racial Justice will honor Bishop Joseph Perry and Father Michael Pfleger, pastor of St. Sabina Parish, with Lifetime Achievement Awards in recognition of their lives of service in pursuit of dismantling racism, injustice and inequalities on behalf of African Americans and all people of color.
The awards will be presented at 7:00 p.m. April 7, 2010 at Christ the King Jesuit College Preparatory School during the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Service. His Eminence Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I. will preside over the ceremony.I'm inclined to give Cardinal George the benefit of the doubt here, that the Office for Racial Justice awarded Fr. Pfleger without the Cardinal's knowledge or input. But the announcement was made at least on or before the 24th of March. The event is scheduled for April 7. The Cardinal must know by now that Pfleger is being recognized. So now the question is - does this qualify as an endorsement? Is the Cardinal cool with Pfleger, the friend of the Rev Jeremiah Wright and unashamed supporter of Obama?
Oh - and in case you need a reminder as to the kind of stuff Pfleger is renowned for:
Perhaps someone from Chicago can explain this. It looks ridiculous to me.
